yes, we are back in california again. we are both jet lagged (kai woke up at 3 am!) but we got home safe.

カリフォルニアに帰ってきました。時差ぼけがかなりあるけど（カイは夜中の３時に起きちゃったし！）無事に家につきました！

kai did mostly okay in the 8.5 hr plane ride. i just tried to keep him busy by watching movies, play with iphone, coloring, and take pictures. these are some of the pictures (like out of a hundred!) that he took. most of them were blurry but some came out okay. i'll be back on blogging rest of japan trip from tomorrow.

今回の帰りの８時間半の飛行機もまぁなんとかいい子でいました。＾＾；とにかくいろいろやらせてればいいやと思って、映画、 iphone、ぬりえ、コンデジで写真撮らせたり... で、これはカイが１００枚くらい撮った写真のなかからの数枚、もちろんほとんどはすごい手ぶれだけど何枚かまともなのがありました。＾＾；明日からは続きの日本でのブログに戻りま〜す。

we went to the world's famous din-tai-fung and ate xiao long bao for dinner.

夕飯は有名なディンタイフォンで小龍包を食べました。

i understand why this restaurant is world's famous, 'cuz it's super yummy! you put soy sauce and vinegar in this thin sliced ginger dish, then put some on the spoon and eat it with very juicy xiao long bao.

やっぱり有名なだけに美味しかった！ここはかなりのおすすめです。＾＾　醤油とお酢を細切りショウガに入れて、それを少しレンゲにとってジューシーな小龍包をのせて食べます。

xiao long bao had few different kinds...like crab, shrimp, etc. they were all good! every one of them is made by hand, i wonder how many xiao long bao each chef makes... i can't even start to imagine!

小龍包は何種類か種類がありました、例えば蟹みそ、エビなど、どれも全部美味しかった！一つ一つ手作りの小龍包、一体一人のシェフは一日何個位作るんだろう？想像つかないなぁ〜。

after dinner, since we liked the night market the night before, we went to the biggest night market in taipei which is located at shilin.

夕飯の後は昨夜のナイトマーケットが良かったから台北で一番おおきなシリンナイトマーケットに行ってきました。

this is food side of the night market. there were so many things that looked very interesting or i had no idea what it was! we just looked and didn't buy anything since we were full.

ここは食べ物サイドのナイトマーケット。不思議な食べ物やよく訳の分からない物などどにかくたくさんありました。多分外人も日本にきたらこんな感じなのかな？笑 夕飯を食べた後だったので見ただけで何も買いませんでした。（お腹もいっぱいだったけど買うのもちょっと勇気がなかったかな？笑）

this is the clothes and some fruit etc. side of the night market. it's like walking at harajyuku in tokyo, tons and tons of people!

こっちが洋服とかちょっとしたフルーツなどが売っている所。とにかく凄い人で東京の原宿を歩いているような感じ。

day 2 on taiwan trip...

台湾二日目。

it was raining lightly in the morning but glad it stopped by early afternoon.

朝は雨が降っていたけど午後にはやんでくれてよかったー。

the one thing i was really surprised was the amount of motorcycles on the road. maybe there's like 50 of them at each intersections, each time! and of course, seems to me, they drive all crazy!

一番驚いたのがバイク（原チャリ？）の数。信号で止まるごとに５０台くらい前のほうにつぎからつぎへとどんどん集まってきてもう前が見えない！もちろん、私が見るからにはバイクはすごい所を走っていたりするからなんとなくめちゃくちゃ！って感じでした。＾＾；

took mrt (subway) and checked out chiang kai-shek memorial hall real quick. sweet potato looked pretty good on the side of the road but didn't try it, maybe next time ;)

蒋介石の記念堂をmrt (地下鉄）に乗ってチラッと見に行ってきました。焼き芋を歩道で売っているのちょっと美味しそうだったけど買いませんでした。次回トライかな？^_-

i went to taiwan for 3 days with my dad for a little business trip. it was my first time going there, it was very short but was very interesting.

台湾にビジネストリップで３日間行ってきました。台湾は今回初めてだったので、短かったけどいろいろと面白い物を見てきました。＾＾

there was lots of decorations for chinese new year everywhere (lions and fire crackers).

チャイニーズニューイヤーがもうすぐなのでそれのデコレーションがどこにでもいっぱい飾ってありました。

the most interesting thing was night market, just what they sell as far as food was very unique... the candy coated strawberries were very yummy but definitely not the duck head/neck thing... lol

一番面白かったのがナイトマーケット。やっぱりどんな食べ物を売っているのかとかはかなり日本と違って面白かったです。水飴のイチゴはかなりおすすめ！でもアヒルの頭／首は絶対食べる気にならないなぁ〜　＾＾；

it's actually a little bit ago but we went to yokohama zoo for a day! it was kai's first time at the zoo.

先日横浜動物園、ズーラシア に行ってきました。海にとっては初めての動物園でした。＾＾

even tho there was a glass　in front of us, it was still pretty scary to see a big tiger come up right next to you.

ガラス越しでも、やっぱりジロって見られながら近寄られる虎さんはやっぱりちょっと怖かったです。＾＾；

海はこんな感じでしっかりと動物みてました。＾＾

japanese maple was pretty at the zoo too. :) overall, yokohama zoo was great, really big and tons of different animals to see (over a hundred, you can see a list here) with very low entrance fee (about $6 per adult, kids under 5 is free). i totally recommend this zoo!

the only thing i regret is that i couldn't take a good picture of okapi... it was towards the end of day and getting dark out and on top of that, he was inside　through the glass window :( i guess i have to save that until next time ;)

もみじの紅葉はここでも綺麗でした。＾＾　ズーラシアはかなり良かったです！すごく大きい場所で、１００種類以上の動物がいて（動物リストはこちら）おまけに入場料も安い！（大人６００円、５歳以下フリー）　かなりのおすすめスポットです　＾＾　

今回一番残念だったのがオカピの良い写真が撮れなかった事... ちょうどオカピの展示場は順番でいくと最後から２番目、日が暮れてしまいはじめて、室内のガラス越しにいたんです！（←かなり言い訳かも　＾＾；）次回は逆回りして最初にオカピを見ちゃおうかな？まあそれは次回までのお楽しみにしておきます。

after tokyo tower, we took few trains and walked around akihabara and shinjyuku in tokyo.

this is the JR (Japan Railway) train fare chart in english at the akihabara station. i think it looks pretty cool, all color coordinated for the different train lines. i like how the type is all diagonal to fit the name of each train stations. you can click to see it bigger :)

秋葉原でJRの英語の運賃表を発見！ちゃんと綺麗に電車の線で色が違うのがなかなかシンプルでGOOD！あとローマ字の駅の名前が斜めに書いてあってそれもデザイン的に好きだったから思わずパチリと撮ってしまいました。　＾＾　クリックで拡大できます。

for the last day in yosemite, we went to see the giant sequoias at mariposa grove. these sequoias were huuuuuge and just amazing!

ヨセミテ最終日はマリポサ　グローブのジャイアント　セコイアを見に行ってきました。名前の通り、すごくデカくてビックリでした。

before the tour, kai was having fun playing the pine cone soccer by himself ;)

ツアーの前は松ぼっくりを見つけて一人で松ぼっくりサッカーをしてました。＾＾

these are the pine cones that you can find at mariposa grove. the long and big sugar pine cones are about 16 inches long!

これがここのマリポサグローブで見つけられる松ぼっくりの種類。いちばん大きいのはシュガーパインのパインコーン、大きさは４０cm前後です。

the clothespin tree, countless fires throughout the decades nearly severed this tree's trunk and created a space in it large enough for a pick-up truck to drive through.

クロスピントリー、何十年というあいだに何回もの山火事で木の幹に穴が開いてしまい、それでも生き続けている木。穴のサイズはトラックや車が簡単に通り抜ける幅です。

the grizzly giant, probably 1900-2400 years old and is the oldest and the largest tree in the grove. it's 210 ft. tall, i mean, look at the size of people at the bottom!

グリズリージャイアント、多分1900〜2400歳で、このグローブの中では一番古く、大きな木。高さは約64m、木の前にいる人がかなり小さく見えます。

those pine cones next to kai's hand is the giant sequoias pine cones. they are just so small compare to what the tree is!

海の手の横にある小さい松ぼっくりがこのジャイアントセコイアの松かさ。木はすごく大きいのに松ぼっくりはかなり小さめでびっくり！

we hiked a bit and kai was exploring as he collects branches!

ちょっとその辺をハイキング、海はかなり探検しながら枝を集めていました。

we saw lots of squirrels and chipmunk, so cute! :)

この辺ではリスとシマリスがいっぱいいました。かわいい〜　＾＾

last stop was to walk around the historic wawona hotel, built in 1865. my parents stayed here 33 years ago when they last came here in yosemite. unfortunately we couldn't make reservations this time to stay :(

最終ストップは歴史的に有名な1865年（江戸時代末期）に建てられたワオナ ホテル。家の両親は前回ヨセミテに来た時（それって３３年前なんですけど...）に泊まりました。今回も予約をとろうとしたけど満室で残念という事でぐるっと一周散歩してきました。

we went to the glacier point at the right time to catch the beautiful sunset. just love how the half dome becomes so pink by the sun!

グレイシャーポイントというビゥーポイントにちょうど夕焼けが良い時間に行ってきました。ハーフドームがみごとにピンクですごく綺麗でした。

we went to see the yosemite falls next (this is the upper fall). it's a bit log post...

じぃーじとばぁーばと一緒にハイキングコースでの帰り。

the famous el capitan (3000 ft.). rock climbers climb this for like 4 to 5 days straight to get to the top!

ロッククライミングで有名なヨセミテのエル　キャピタン (910 m)。4日から5日かけて頂上まで登るらしいです。

so we looked for climbers and found about 5 people climbing with 400 mm zoom lens.

で、４００ミリのズームレンズで探したところ５人くらい発見！これがそのうちの二人。凄い！空中でキャンプとかするのかなぁ〜？考えただけでもゾッとします。

when we were walking back, the park ranger had the bear skin laying on the bench.　

帰りの途中、パークレンジャーが熊の毛皮をベンチで見せていました。熊の毛はかなり固かったです。

this was our first stop for the yosemite trip. we were driving on tioga pass rd. and happen to run into this pretty pond (? don't even know if it has a name).

これはヨセミテトリップのファーストストップ。タイオガ　パス　ロードを走っていたら道路沿いで綺麗な池（？　名前も分かりません＾＾；）見つけました。

夜の９時半頃にヨセミテから帰ってきました。どうやら写真はあわせて１０００枚ちょっと撮ったみたいで、整理するのに大変そうです。＾＾；でも明日時間があったら少しアップする予定です。

we are going to yosemite this weekend and leaving tonight so i won't be blogging next few days. hopefully i can post few pics on sunday night!

we went up to healsburg to visit "grandma" monica this last weekend. it was pretty up there, lots of trees and reminded me of portland! lake sonoma was big and saw lots of people boating there. it's hard to see but we saw bunch of cicada when we went on a walk and making some crazy noise! the pic of kai makes me laugh, he totally looks like a "drunk sailor" ha ha ha. anyways, we really loved this organic frozen yogurt place called snow bunny in down town healdsburg. it was good, cute logo, and modern interior design, we loved it!

This is my grandparents house, yard, barn, and mailbox :) please dont send them any love letters people.

Here are a few of the models that my grandpa makes. He makes all the little instrament pannels and seat belts that go inside the cockpits.

The path to Jump Off Joe Creek, the creek (which is kind of dry because it's summer time), and two dorks at the creek... oh and those are turkey feathers we found on our way to the creek in Maggie's hair just to top off the dorkieness.

This is the hospital in downdown Grants Pass, we made a couple trips out here because the night we got there my grandpa fell out on the deck and fractured his pelvis, guess he wont be dancing like Elvis anymore. :(
